Thought for the day! October 24

Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[b] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Like a town on a hill, Christ’s power can rise above our own and that of the world. When we harness this power and let our light shine, others see our bright beacon. One way our light shines is through the fruit we produce. When we show love, kindness, and goodness, it’s a reflection of God. Our good deeds that were fostered by our love of Christ can lead others to him.

Matthew 5:7 Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. By showing mercy to others, we give thanks to God for the mercy we have been shown ourselves. When we are merciful, we enjoy a close kinship with the Lord.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted

and binds up their wounds.

Remember God when you are heart is broken that Gos is the only one who sees how broken you truely are inside.

He will heal your broken heart and make you strong again as He has not forgotten or neglected you. Just as physical wounds can heal, internal wounds can heal as well.

The Lord will restore your strength and make you better than you ever were.

If nobody will listen to you, speak to him and he will hear and take away your pain.

Just continue to trust in Him.

Amos 4:12
“Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel;
because I will do this to you,
prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

In Amos chapter three, God reiterates the many ways He tried to warn the people of Israel to repent and get right with Him, but they continuously refused to do it.

Over and over again He saved them, but they still went back to the same mistakes, committing the same sins as before. In fact, it happened so many times that Amos describes the nation in Amos 4: 11 as a “burning stick, snatched out of the fire.”

How should we prepare to meet God?  John the Baptist said “to bring forth fruit worthy of repentance.”
   a. If you have visitors coming to stay at your house, don’t you try to clean it up before they come?
   b. By repenting of our sins and asking Jesus to wash us in His blood, He cleans us up and gives us the Holy Spirit to help us.

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in the mind of a man,

but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

It is in the nature of men (and women) to plan and prepare for the future. Some of the plans may be wise and some may be foolish, but there are many plans in a man’s heart.

Outside of God’s good and perfect plan, however, even the best plans of man can end in disappointment and even defeat. It’s when we hold to God’s promises found in Scripture, we remember that God’s plans are always greater than our own.

Proverbs 15:18

A hot-tempered man stirs up strife,

but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.

a. A wrathful man stirs up strife: When strife is stirred up, it doesn’t happen by accident. Usually, the cause is a wrathful man or woman who stirs up strife.

b. He who is slow to anger allays contention: The wise man or woman is slow to anger, and they have a way of bringing peace and smoothing over contention instead of stirring up strife.

Genesis 17:1,2
1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;[a] walk before me, and be blameless,

2 that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.”

He is the Lord God Almighty!

Ephesians 5: 15,16

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,

16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

Because this light was given to us, we should walk circumspectly – carefully, wisely, not as fools.

why it is important to walk wisely. Jesus spoke of a time when, many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold (Matthew 24:11-12). Surely we are in those times, because the days are evil.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

A life that is lived in spirit and truth is a life that is led by the Holy Spirit of God Who came to indwell our hearts and guide our lives the moment we were born from above, and He speaks to us quietly through our enlivened human spirit. The Holy Spirit knows the thoughts of our heart and the deep yearnings within our soul, and He reaches out to us through our spirit.

He longs to lead and guide us into all truth and He is grieved if we choose to live our life according to our old fleshly nature which was severed at the Cross, for when we live our life in spirit and truth He takes the deep cravings of our heart (cravings that we ourselves do not understand), and He intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

Amos 5:24

But let justice roll down like waters,

and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

It is hard to stop the flow of a river; it is hard to stop a never ending stream. In the same way, God is promising us that, in spite of all of Israel’s problems, justice and righteousness would roll on.

It all begins with the coming of Jesus and His death on the cross for us.

a. Justice demands that the penalty for sin be paid. And none of us are good enough to go to heaven on our own merits. So God sent Jesus to die in our place.

b. That way God can be righteous while also being loving. Like a mighty river, God can wash away all of our sins and make us clean again. Regardless of when or where we live, everyone who repents and asks Jesus for help will be forgiven and washed in His blood.

Psalm 113:3

From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!

Matthew 5:13

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

Salt enhances the flavor of other seasonings.

This should also be true of you. You should enhance and enrich the lives of people that you come in contact with.

“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” – Colossians 4:6
